Nuno Melo was re-elected president of the CDS-PP with 89.3% of the vote.

Nuno Melo was re-elected president of the CDS-PP this Sunday, and his National Political Commission received 89.3% of the votes of delegates at the 31st Party Congress.

The results were announced by the President of the Congress Council, José Manuel Rodríguez, at the opening of the final session of the main session, which began about an hour later than planned in the program and will end this Sunday in Viseu.

The announcement was made at 1:25 p.m., after delegates voted in the morning to elect the new bodies.

The new leader’s list received 684 yes votes, corresponding to 89.3%, 65 blank votes (8.5%) and 17 invalid votes (2.2%) out of a total of 766 voters.

The proposal for a global strategy, presented by Nuno Melo, the only one to take part in the vote, was unanimously approved on the first day of the congress.

He was first elected leader of the SDS-PP at the Guimarães congress in 2022. The list presented by Nuno Melo to the national political commission received 74.93% of the votes.

As for the National Council – the highest body of the party between congresses – the single list presented by Nuno Melo collected 691 votes in favor, 43 empty and 18 null. Former parliamentary leader Nuno Magalhães returned to head the list and became the first councilor elected.

The National Council, headed by Luis Queiro, was elected with 700 votes in favor, 43 empty votes and 14 void votes.

The 31st Congress of the CDS-PP also elected the Bureau of the Congress, which will again be headed by José Manuel Rodríguez. The list received 689 yes votes, 36 empty votes and 12 zero votes.

The National Council of Jurisdiction, the body that will be headed by António José de Morais Batista, was elected with 704 votes, with 38 whites and 14 votes.

The list sent to the National Review Board received 706 yes votes, 41 empty votes and 10 zero votes. This body, which will not include a single woman, will be headed by Diogo Carlos Mendes Almeida da Silva.

After the announcement of the results, the President of the Congress Council said: “The new bodies of the CDS-PP have been elected.”

The closing session began about an hour and a half later, at 1:20 p.m.

All guests were greeted by the Chairman of the Board, including the Ambassador of Ukraine, and this moment enlivened the congress hall.

“The struggle of the Ukrainian people is also our struggle,” emphasized Jose Manuel Rodriguez.

Videos of European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and People’s Party (PP) President Alberto Nunez Feijoo were also shown.
