At least seven people were killed and 21 injured when a car crashed into a crowd watching a car race organized by the Sri Lanka Army east of Colombo, police said.
The vehicle hit people who were in an unprotected area of the Fox Hill circuit, located about 180 kilometers from the Sri Lankan capital Colombo.
Video posted on social media showed marshals waving yellow flags to warn drivers to slow down as the vehicle overturned.
The images show cars speeding through clouds of dust before the car plows into a crowd as people scream.
“A total of 27 people were taken to hospital and seven died from their injuries,” said Nihal Talduva, a police spokesman quoted by AFP, saying one of the dead was an eight-year-old child.
