The President of the Professional Police Association says 3,500 new officers are needed for PSP to comply with pre-retirement laws. At a meeting in Braga on Saturday, Paulo Santos accused successive governments of preventing the renewal of PSP staff because professional status is blocked by public budgets. “The rule limits pre-retirement exits to entries. Now, if there are few candidates for PSP due to poor pay conditions, those who already have demands for dismissal do not leave,” he notes, remembering that there are thousands of elements that meet the requirements but continue to serve. Despite the warning, this situation will not be discussed at the meeting of the PSP and GNR unions this Monday with the Minister of Internal Administration.
