The Rwandan government on Tuesday expressed its satisfaction with the British Parliament’s vote on a controversial bill that would allow the deportation to the African country of asylum seekers who entered the United Kingdom illegally.
“We are pleased that the bill has been passed by the British Parliament,” Rwandan government spokeswoman Yolanda Makolo said in a statement sent to AFP, adding that authorities were “committed to welcoming people resettled in Rwanda.”
On Monday, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called the passage of legislation allowing the deportation of illegal migrants to Rwanda a “fundamental change in the global migration equation.”
