The People’s Defense Forces, one of the armed resistance groups in charge of the military junta in Myanmar (formerly Burma), have claimed the deaths of 27 military personnel in various terrorist attacks in the country.
An armed resistance group against the military in power since the 2021 coup d’état said this Friday that among the dead are officials who have held governorships in various regions of the country.
As a result of the shelling of soldiers, three soldiers of the People’s Defense Forces were killed.
Armed actions took place mainly in the districts of Sagaing, Mandalay, Makwe, Bago, Taninthari, according to the Irrawaddy news portal.
According to the People’s Defense Forces (FDP), after clashes with soldiers, the armed resistance also began to control the village of Shwe Pyi Aye, Homalin province.
However, the FDP fears that the area will be bombarded by the military junta in the coming days, which is why, according to the same portal, they have warned the population to leave the place.
The country is going through a major political, economic and social crisis following a February 1, 2021 coup d’état that sparked nationwide protests.
The Association for Assistance to Political Prisoners estimates that more than 17,600 people have been detained since the coup d’état, and that more than 3,000 citizens have been killed by the military since 2021.
