Eight Portuguese injured in a road accident in Namibia have already been discharged.

Eight of those injured in Wednesday’s accident in Namibia were discharged between yesterday and Friday at two hospitals where they had been admitted since the accident.

The five Portuguese will return this weekend (Saturday or Sunday) to Porto airport.

The others suffered minor injuries and are expected to be released soon.

The Portuguese government already knows where the two bodies are. They were found in the morgue of one of the two hospitals mentioned above. The autopsy may not be performed until Tuesday or Thursday.

12 people remain in hospital. Six of these are located between the “high care” and “intensive care” wards of two hospitals (Swakopmund and Welvistia in Walvis Bay).

The crash of buses carrying tourists that killed two Portuguese women injured 16 other nationals, six of whom remain under observation in the emergency department. This Friday, the government adjusted the number of Portuguese injured in the accident to 20, four of whom did not require hospital treatment at that time.

The Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities said that these citizens were accompanied by a person in charge of the Portuguese consultation department, who provides them with support, especially in communication, since some of them do not speak English and cannot communicate with the medical teams.

On Wednesday, an adviser to the Portuguese communities in the capital Windhoek confirmed that the accident occurred after 15:00 (14:00 in Lisbon) in the Quisseb Valley, on the way to the largest sand dunes of Sossus Vlei in the Namib Desert.

Manuel Coelho said the accident involved two buses carrying 40 tourists, one of which was carrying at least 22 Portuguese tourists.

Of the 22 Portuguese, two died on the spot.
