Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced this Sunday at the Fratelli d’Italia party conference that she will stand in the European elections scheduled for June 9, Reuters reports.
“We want to do in Europe what we did in Italy… create a majority that unites the center-right and puts the left in opposition. I have always considered myself a soldier, and soldiers do not hesitate to stand on the front line when necessary. We want Italy to play a central role in changing what is not working in Europe. Because yes, Italy is changing today, although many said it was impossible,” Meloni said.
The Prime Minister also said that she does not intend to waste time on the election campaign. With 27% support, Georgia Meloni’s party is the most popular in Italy. Last week, Democratic Party leader Ellie Schlein announced and has already announced her candidacy for the Europeans.
