André Villas-Boas reported this Friday that Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa invited him to be present at the presidential podium when Porto hosted Sporting.
However, the new leader of the Blue and Whites rejected this request.
“I support the idea of communicating with participants. I think at this stage it makes sense to be closer to the participants, at least for the last time. At this stage I would like to be closer to the participants. They joined the elections en masse,” he explained.
Villas-Boas thanked Pinto da Costa for the invitation, who also congratulated the former coach on Saturday night’s historic result.
“Thank you for the congratulations – it is a message of strength for Porto,” he said as he left the house. The president-elect did not specify whether he would meet Pinto da Costa before the classic match at the Dragao stadium.
“This is an act of exaltation, of love, for which I thanked him with all the love I have for him. [Pinto da Costa]” he added about the phone call.
The 46-year-old former coach did not give a date for taking over as leader of the Blue and Whites and added that no tribute to the former president is being discussed.
