The PSD President and the Prime Minister this Sunday called on the leaders of the PS and Chegi to say whether they want to create an “alternative government” and “legislate together”, given that this must be decided “face to face” in front of the Portuguese. .
At the final meeting of the Universidade Europa, Luis Montenegro mentioned the approval last week of most of the PS, BE and PCP proposals on the IRS, with the government’s proposal ultimately being reduced to a specialty without a vote, as was the case with these proposals. Chegi and Illinois, at a time when their approval seemed to be in doubt.
“If what seems to be a sign of the first week happens and the idea of the PS and Chega is to feign opposition to the government by creating an alternative government, then they will have to take it head on with the Portuguese government.” “, he challenged.
Montenegro believes that the next campaign will provide an opportunity to make these clarifications.
“During the last campaign, I was persecuted by declaring what alliance policy I adhere to regarding Portugal and I complied with it, I have never heard the leaders of the PS and Chegi say that they are going to pass laws together in the Assembly of the Republic to take advantage of this campaign . to clarify this,” he said.
The PSD president said he wanted to focus the campaign on choosing the next European Parliament – even advising voters not to vote for “specific reasons” – but warned that the AD would not be “indifferent to reality”.
“If the PS and Chega want to govern instead of the Government, then they will have to seriously unite, and this is what they should tell the country (…) This is not revenge on the legislators, but this is an opportunity for all of us to demonstrate our consistency and what we really want for the country,” he said.
In the presentation of AD candidates to Europeans on June 9, Montenegro left an outburst about the first weeks of government, which he predicted for the next campaign.
“Let’s get on with this campaign to do what we do in government: it’s great, I really enjoy governing and I really like the response to our government. The huge criticism they make of the Prime Minister and the new government is that we are delivering what we promised,” he said ironically.
Montenegro said that of the parties with the largest representation, the AD coalition would be the only one “that will not have problems with coherence” in the European campaign, in a new criticism of the PS and Cega.
“In this campaign we will be able to say what we have said in the past, and in Europe what we say in Portugal. It will be very difficult for the PS to explain why in Portugal it agrees to have a vision of the government and share the government with the parties.” that they don’t trust the European Union and NATO,” he said.
Chege also, in his opinion, “will have to explain why in Europe it goes hand in hand with the French, Italian and German parties defending Putin’s Russian regime.”
The PSD president returned this Sunday to justify the choice of Sebastian Bugallo as head of the AD list – for his “youth, courage, merit” – and with a hint of the head of the PS list.
“We are consistent, once again: we did not look for a member of the government that we dismissed back in the day,” he said, referring to Marta Temido, who resigned as chief executive led by António Costa in August 2022.
In the same spirit, CDS-PP President Nuno Melo praised Sebastián Bugallo as “one of the most talented young people in the media and in the political firmament.”
“Ever since he agreed to head the AD list, he has become one of the most attacked. This is the best sign, these attacks are happening because they are afraid of Sebastian Bugallo,” said Melo, in an apparent play on words on the name of the PS candidate, which caused laughter from the audience.
Following the initiative, the presentation was attended by the majority of active candidates and deputy ADs, ministers Paulo Rangel and Pedro Duarte, PSD Secretary General Hugo Soares, as well as deputies and leaders of the two parties.
