The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) increased the number of areas under yellow warning from two to five due to the forecast of snowfall from Tuesday to Thursday.
In addition to Castelo Branco and Guarda, which were already in yellow, the IPMA issued a new snow warning statement for the areas of Braga, Viana do Castelo and Vila Real, from 9pm on Tuesday to 6pm on Thursday.
Five areas will be under a snowfall warning of more than 1,200 meters and snow accumulation of more than 1,400 meters, which could amount to 10 centimeters at the highest points of the Serra da Estrela.
A yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, is issued by the IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
