This Tuesday, André Villas-Boas took office as President of FC Porto in a ceremony that took place at the Dragao Stadium, 10 days after defeating Pinto da Costa in the elections of April 27th. Villas-Boas won with 21,489 votes (80.28%), breaking a cycle of 15 mandates and 42 years of Pinto da Costa’s rule.
Andre Villas-Boas began by thanking all the people who have brought honor to the club. “Being a Porto fan is a state of mind. A new era begins in the history of Futebol Clube do Porto,” he said.
Regarding the April 27 elections, Villas-Boas said they were exemplary and “only possible thanks to the contagious efforts of many people.”
“From myself and my entire team, I guarantee commitment, dedication and love for FC Porto.” With a vision that will take us into modern times,” he assured.
The new president of FC Porto also said that this day evokes great emotions. “There are no words to describe everything he did for Porto.” His legacy is eternal and he will always be respected,” he said, referring to Pinto da Costa.
“Thank you very much to all colleagues for making this historic day. There is only one “Porto”. Long live Porto,” he concluded, before hugging Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa.
The ceremony was addressed by Lourenco Pinto, President of the outgoing General Assembly of FC Porto. “To the outgoing members, my thanks for what they have done for Porto, thanks to Pinto da Costa for everything he has done. To the new ones taking office, a word of hope and faith,” he said.
The current President of the General Assembly of FC Porto, António Tavares, thanked Lourenço Pinta for his speech and said that at this particular moment in the life of the club he looks at this place with responsibility.
The moment Pinto da Costa signed the document terminating his duties, everyone present applauded him.
