The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on Tuesday promulgated a decree-law that approves the organization and mode of functioning of the PSD/SDS-PP government.
“The President of the Republic published a government document approving the regime of organization and functioning of the XXIV Constitutional Government,” says a note published on the official website of the President of the Republic on the Internet.
This decree-law was approved by the Council of Ministers on April 26. According to a statement made at this government meeting, “the new organization is the result of a balance between minimizing transition costs and focusing organic changes on aspects that are consistent with the government’s strategic priorities.”
According to the government, the corresponding organic structure aims to ensure “the quality and speed of execution of European funds; creating, engaging and creating opportunities for youth in Portugal; reduction of bureaucracy and administrative modernization; comprehensive and long-term policy.” a long-term policy for the skills of the Portuguese and a way out of the infrastructural impasse and the serious difficulties in accessing housing.”
The PSD and SDS-PP formed a minority government after early legislative elections on March 10, led by Luis Montenegro and consisting of 17 ministers, who took office on April 2, and 41 secretaries of state.
At the inauguration ceremony, the head of state promised Prime Minister Luis Montenegro “solidarity and joint support” for his government, and he believes “sustained dialogue” is necessary to increase his support base.
The executive power is supported by 80 deputies – 78 from the SDP and 2 from the SDS-NP – out of 230 in parliament, in which the PS has 78 seats, Chega – 50, Liberal Initiative – 8, BU – 5, PKP. 4, Livre also 4 and PAN 1.
