The head of the Chegi list in the European elections, António Tangier Correa, in an interview with TSF on Wednesday questioned the support of Ukraine from the European Union (EU).
The retired diplomat and party vice-president lamented the consequences of the conflict in the east. “Human lives are being lost in an absolutely incredible way. Generations are being sacrificed,” he said.
Ukraine, Russia and the EU itself are not interested “in negotiating a peace agreement,” said Antonio Tangier Correa.
“The EU simply took one side in the conflict. We did too, but we are not the EU,” he noted, referring to Chegoy’s support for Ukraine.
The EU’s position, according to the candidate for the European Parliament, has lost its meaning, “because from the moment Russia invaded, it invaded.”
Defending the path of negotiations, the head of the Chega list assured that he has “no sympathy for [presidente russo] Vladimir Putin and for Russia.”
“I, as a diplomat, was accused of being kind to Putin, and nothing was written. No one has ever heard of me being kind to Putin,” he said.
In Portugal, elections to the European Parliament will be held on June 9.
