Rui Rio, the former PSD leader, promises to discuss divisive social issues that have recently been shrouded in populism “in a more serious and sensible way.” Rio, one of the protagonists of the new channel Medialivre, visited the Now studio this Friday and explained to Negosios how he faces a new problem.
“My goal here is to discuss topics that usually lend themselves to a certain populism, and to strive to discuss them more seriously and intelligently. Not so emotionally, but rationally,” the former PSD leader admitted to Negosios. Rui Rio thinks it may not be the “sexiest” way to discuss topics such as functions and the use of a deputy, or even whether a CEO should earn “ten to twenty times more than a worker,” but he hopes that The way the debate is conducted means that “people can appreciate it because they feel they have heard arguments that fit together.”
In a conversation with Negosios, Rui Rio refused to comment on current political issues, as he believes that not enough time has passed since he left the PSD leadership. “I don’t forget what they did to me when I was the leader of the party, with constant criticism. I don’t want to do this to anyone, I don’t think it’s right,” he explained.
And Rio will bring this “ethic” to the Now channel, at least in the early stages. “Obviously, over time, at one point or another, I will begin to appreciate certain aspects,” but always within the framework of a “suggestive order,” rather than a simple commentary on what some politician said.
