The General Inspectorate of Medical Activities (IGAS) has initiated a monitoring process against Legionella at the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon, which will begin next Monday, the organization said in a statement on Friday.
The audit concerns the dermatology service of the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon. The IGAS decision was made on Thursday the 9th, the day of the CEO’s order.
The decision followed news from the online newspaper Observador, which reported that two patients were diagnosed with the bacteria after undergoing an external dermatology service at the hospital. The newspaper also added that one of the patients with other health problems died. I’m dying.
IGAS said in a statement that “13 inspection processes have been initiated between 2021 and the present” as part of inspection activities for the prevention and control of Legionella.
“11 processes have already been carried out. Six processes have been completed. 33 recommendations have been issued and implemented, currently 26 recommendations. However, four processes are still at the monitoring stage, during which the remaining recommendations will be implemented,” the document requires.
Recommendations issued for the Dr. Daniel de Matos Maternity Hospital, the Hospital and University Center of Coimbra (in 2023), the Dona Estefania Hospital in Lisbon (in 2023), the San José Hospital in Lisbon (in 2022): under surveillance, and the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon (in 2022) will now undergo a new verification process.
