The baby was abandoned in a store in California, USA, by her pregnant mother, who asked employees to call her a taxi and then disappeared.
When police arrived on scene, officers told them that the child’s mother had entered the store and ordered a taxi. While the employee was preparing the taxi, the woman went into the toilet. As the car pulled up, the woman left the bathroom, got into the car and left the baby in the shopping cart, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
In accordance with Daily mailThe child, believed to be between seven and nine months old, was taken by task forces and placed in the care of the Department of Children and Families while authorities began searching for the woman.
The sheriff’s office posted photos of the child and mother on social media pages so the public could quickly identify them.
Detectives later spoke with family members of the child and mother and were able to identify them, but did not release their names or any other details.
The investigation is ongoing.
