A new drug gives hope to people suffering from morbid obesity so they can achieve the right weight. The shot, created by Eli Lilly’s North American lab and nicknamed “Godzilla”, is currently being tested in the US on 338 overweight people with diabetes aged 18 to 75 for 48 weeks. The results were very encouraging: the average weight loss of patients was 24%.
The results exceed those achieved so far with the drugs Ozempic and Munjaro, including for diabetics.
The New England Journal of Medicine reports that after 24 weeks, most patients had already lost 17% of their weight.
The study was conducted by the Yale University Obesity Research Center. One of the authors of the work, Anya Yastrebuf, said that the drug is based on a retarded substance and that the results were better in female patients. “Women lost up to 28% of their excess weight and men lost 21%,” he said.
