A stage collapse during an opposition presidential election campaign killed nine people and injured 63 others, said Samuel Garcia, governor of Nuevo Leon state in northern Mexico.
Garcia told the press Wednesday at the scene of the same day’s incident that some of the wounded were in serious condition. “We are still waiting for official data, we are waiting for the prosecutor’s office to make its contribution,” he added.
Among the dead is a child, Reuters adds.
The accident occurred around 18:00 (00:00 this Thursday in Lisbon) during an event that was part of the election campaign of Jorge Álvarez Maines, the presidential candidate of the Civic Movement, in the state capital of Monterrey.
