Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday thanked the official recognition of Palestine by three European countries, a decision he called courageous and which demonstrates international consensus to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
“The Palestinian Presidency welcomes Europe’s bold and courageous political positions, especially those taken by Spain, Ireland and Norway in recognizing the State of Palestine,” Abbas said today in a statement published by the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.
Spain, Norway and Ireland have committed to formally recognize Palestine as a state from today, joining more than 140 countries that have already done so around the world, while Israel has waged a military offensive in the Gaza Strip since October.
