The head of the ADN list in the European elections, Joana Amaral Dias, criticized Portugal’s support for Ukraine on Tuesday, the day when the country’s President Vladimir Zelensky is expected to visit.
“This is not about continuing to siphon resources from Ukraine (…), emptying the Portuguese coffers and the pockets of the Portuguese, which will take money from our hospitals, our schools, our fishermen and our farmers, this is not what will bring peace “, said the ADN candidate.
Joana Amaral Dias spoke to reporters at the Fisherman’s Wharf in the Costa Nova do Prado, in Ilhavo, Aveiro district, after spending several hours on board a fishing boat at the mouth of Aveiro.
The head of the ADN list said that peace in Ukraine can only be achieved through dialogue and negotiations.
“I don’t want our children to come home in coffins, and it’s Luis Montenegro who should fight for that, not support the gun lobby,” he said.
The candidate also took the opportunity to deny that the party she is running for in these elections could be confused with the AD (Democratic Alliance) in the legislative elections, believing that this theory was used by Luis Montenegro to justify a “terrible result.” “he received.
“Nobody confuses AD with ADN because back then they also confused PS with PSD. There was no AD in the Madeira elections either, and yet the ADN achieved a historic result. There is evidence that the nine actually made no mistakes,” he said.
Joana Amaral Dias also criticized the way European funds are distributed in Portugal, proposing an “almost complete restructuring”.
“European funds cannot continue to pour in en masse for people to live in the Sheraton, in Porto, or for fashion events, which may initially support the textile sector, but which will not go towards what we really need, the re-industrialization of industry. country, for education and fishing,” he said.
He also stated that it was necessary to “save some of Portugal’s sovereignty and independence”, arguing that the country should have the right to reject directives that were contrary to national interests.
“90% of our daily life, what we eat, how we educate our children comes from Brussels, but this cannot be contrary to national interests. When it conflicts with those interests, we should have the right to effectively override them,” he argued.
Regarding the results among the Europeans, Joana Amaral Díaz stated that she hopes to be elected to the European Parliament, saying that she is convinced that if she currently manages to bother so many people, without a party and without a position, once elected she will be able to “even more to care more and make changes for all Portuguese workers.”
The head of the ADN list, who accompanied the Costa Nova fishermen in their work, was pleased with the experience and said that the initiative served to confirm some of the main concerns and complaints expressed by the party, that fishermen who “should have been supported are not receiving support.”
After several hours of work, the fishermen returned to the pier with half a dozen kilograms of cuttlefish. A good day for those who live by what the sea or estuary provides, as Master Mario Rocha said: “It’s relative. We throw our nets into the water, and it may or may not come.”
“Sometimes we don’t go to the sea or river for two or three months and get nothing. I need to know how to earn money today in order to eat tomorrow or beyond,” concluded the 43-year-old fisherman. .
