British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said today that UK air strikes in Yemen were carried out in “self-defence” and targeted the Houthis’ military capabilities.
“Last night [quinta-feira]The RAF (Royal Air Force) together with the US successfully carried out the fifth operation against Houthi military installations in Yemen,” Sunak told the press.
“These attacks were carried out to further target the Houthis’ military capabilities and prevent further attacks on international shipping. The operations were carried out in self-defense against the ongoing threat posed by the Houthis,” the head of the British Conservative government added. .
Houthis blame Western aircraft for killing 14 people in attacks on Yemen
At least 14 people have been killed and around 30 injured in recent hours as new US and British aircraft bombed Houthi rebel positions in Yemen.
“Heavy Western bombing” hit several areas of Yemen, causing casualties, according to Al-Masirah TV, a spokesman for the rebel movement that controls Sanaa.
According to the same TV channel, the port city of Al-Hodeidah and the port of Al-Salif on the Red Sea were affected.
