More than 252 thousand Portuguese voters, including the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, will be able to vote in advance for the European elections, which will take place on June 9 this Sunday.
According to the Ministry of the Interior (MAI), 252,209 voters registered to vote mobile in the European elections, more than 20% higher than the 208,007 who favored early voting in the last legislative elections on March 10.
This Sunday, anyone who registered before last Thursday will be able to exercise their right in the municipality they chose when requesting early voting.
If a voter is pre-registered to vote but is unable to exercise this right, they will be able to vote on Election Day, June 9, anywhere in the country.
President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Prime Minister Luis Montenegro announced that they will vote in advance in the European elections, in which more than 10.8 million Portuguese are called upon to vote to choose 21 of the 720 MEPs.
In Portugal, 17 parties and coalitions are competing in the European elections: AD, PS, Chega, IL, BE, CDU, Livre, PAN, ADN, MAS, Ergue-te, Nova Direita, Volt Portugal, RIR, Nós Cidadaos, MPT. and PTP.
The early voting regime for mobility was established with the entry into force of Organic Law No. 3/218 on the occasion of the elections of Portuguese Members of the European Parliament in 2019.
