Mozambique’s parliament will resume plenary sessions on July 10 with 18 agenda items, including the latest annual State of the Nation update from current President Filipe Nyusi.
The Assembly of the Republic announced in a statement that the agenda also included annual information from the Ombudsman and a review of the Law establishing the legal basis for the election of the President of the Republic and deputies of the Assembly of the Republic. and the Law on the Election of Members of the Provincial Assembly and the Provincial Governor.
Back in the session that begins on July 10, the tenth session of the current legislative assembly, Parliament will consider proposals for the revision of the Police Act of the Republic of Mozambique and the Statute of Judicial Magistrates, as well as draft regulations on the election of members. Parliament adjourned plenary sessions on May 24 to mark the traditional first semester holiday.
The 250-member Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique is dominated by the Mozambican Liberation Front (Frelimo, the ruling party) with a supermajority of 184 seats, followed by the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo, the main opposition party), with 60 seats, and finally the Democratic Movement Mozambique (MDM) with six seats.
Mozambique will hold general elections on October 9, including legislative and presidential elections, in which Filipe Nyusi is no longer a candidate because he has reached his two-term limit.
