One of the victims of the ultralight plane crash in Leiria has already been discharged.

One of the two victims of the microlight plane crash at Falcao airfield in Leiria has already been discharged, while the other has yet to undergo a new examination, a hospital source told Lusa this Friday.

The crash of an ultralight plane in the early evening on Thursday seriously injured two passengers and led to the closure of the national road (EN) 109 in Leiria, adviser in charge of civil protection Luis Lopez told Lusa at the time. .

Speaking to Lusa, officials from the Air and Rail Accident Prevention and Investigation Authority said they had been notified of the accident, adding that they would investigate the incident.

The victims were taken to the Santo Andre Hospital from the local medical unit of the Leiria region. A source at the facility told Lusa this Friday that one of the men has been discharged and the other, who suffered a skull fracture, will undergo a new examination.

According to Luis Lopez, the microlight aircraft was about to approach the Falcao airfield in União de Fregesias Marrases e Barosa in Leiria when it crashed into the side of the EN 109 adjacent to the infrastructure and ended up breaking apart.

Leiria Volunteer Firefighter Commander Paulo Grilo added to Lusa that while approaching the runway, already falling, “the plane hit a low-voltage cable and came to rest on board EN109, eventually splitting in half in the air.” the area around the airfield, off-road.”

According to a Leiria city councilor, the victims are two men, aged 32 and 39, both Portuguese.

A source from the subregional command for emergencies and civil protection of the Leiria region also reported at 20:00 that two passengers were jailed after an accident with a microlight aircraft.

Firefighters, Public Safety Police (PSP), Municipal Civil Protection, E-Redes and the National Institute of Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.

According to the Subregional Command for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection of the Leiria Region, the air accident alert was raised at 19:11, and at 20:00 21 operatives were on the scene, supported by eight vehicles.

A source from the Leiria district command in the PSP added that the ultralight had problems and the accident occurred while trying to return to the track.
