32 years ago, the Hotel Brisa Sol in Albufeira opened its doors next to the Algarve sea. And so Pastelaria Riviera opened in his building with a separate entrance. Since then, it has served the best delicacies, such as the typical Dom Rodrigos and the exquisite sweets of the Algarve, the classic pastel da nata or the unforgettable Berlin ball. During these three decades, Riviera has become a cult patisserie in the Algarve, with clients from Lagos or Vila Real de Santo António, as well as from Lisbon, Coimbra or Chavez. As Fernando Rosa, his manager of 22 years, says, “half the country’s population knows the Riviera.”
And Riviera is not just about cakes. Everything is prepared in-house and there is no shortage of savory snacks, fresh breads, full lunches and dinners, and ice cream to enjoy throughout the day. With Italian decor that left many speechless when the bakery opened, two terraces, sea views and exceptional service, Riviera is today a national benchmark.
And what keeps leaving the counter, accompanying all these specialties? Coffee, of course. “We’ve been serving Delta Diamante coffee for 32 years. There can be nothing else, it is excellent,” says Fernando Rosa, who guarantees that the coffee will be highly appreciated by customers. About 500 cups of coffee are served here per day, and more in the summer. And that’s not even counting milk socks, gallons, cappuccinos… It can’t be stopped. “On December 24, from 8:00 to 13:00, 15 kg of coffee were drunk.” Almost 2 thousand cups of coffee in one morning.

Therefore, Riviera could not help but become one of the partners chosen by Delta Cafés for the Café da Sorte initiative, which will give its customers more than 6 thousand prizes until July 28 (see sidebar). Fernando Rosa is happy. “Customers have been very supportive. In addition to a cup of coffee, they are also eligible to win prizes.”
Helena Simões, a regular customer, hopes to win. “I come here often, I always drink coffee. In fact, I am a big coffee lover, I drink it at home and outside the house. It is coffee that gives me energy to finish the day. “I’m excited about Café da. Like, I’m going to have a coffee and then apply for the grand prize: a car.”
Richard Farr is also a regular customer. “When I’m around, I always come here. I really like Delta coffee. In fact, I always drink Delta, and at home too. I like its strong taste. I just entered a competition, but I won’t win. Maybe next time I’ll have better luck.”
Winning is as easy as drinking coffee
