Social network twitter was restricted in Turkey this Wednesday, according to the Internet Observatory network blockstwo days after the earthquake that killed more than 11,500 people in southern Turkey and northern Syria.

Users of the platform, including Turkish opposition figures and non-governmental organizations, protested against the initiative, as communications in the earthquake-affected areas are already difficult due to limited reception.

Akdeniz, a computer rights expert and professor at Istanbul Bilgi University, stated in twitterthat there are several articles in Turkish laws that could lead to restriction of access to the social network.
Akdeniz said it was unclear what caused the restriction and added that access to tik tak it is also restricted in Turkey.
