This Sunday, two rescue ships collected 116 sub-Saharan migrants adrift on two boats off the Canary Islands in Spain, including women and children.
The first group was 29 kilometers east of Gran Tarajal (Fuerteventura), while the second was rescued 111 kilometers northeast of Lanzarote after a call to an NGO, with its occupants being transferred to Puerto del Rosario.
The Isar also heads into port with 56 people it rescued from the boat, apparently in good health.
Authorities also mobilized another rescue boat after the Guardia Civil spotted the vessel about 27 kilometers southeast of Gran Tarajal, with an alert received at 11:45 a.m. (Canary time).
The Red Cross assisted eight Maghreb immigrants who were wandering around the capital Puerto del Rosario last night and who say they arrived on the island by boat from Agadir, Morocco, four days ago, although they were unable to specify the date of arrival.
Eight immigrants have reached adulthood and have been transferred to a temporary reception center for foreigners on the island, rescue service sources told EFE.
On Sunday, 205 people were rescued from four small boats on the Canary route, where 547 people were also rescued yesterday from ten boats sailing in dangerous conditions.
