The EU Court of Justice this Thursday ordered Hungary to pay a fine of 200 million euros and a penalty of one million euros for each day of delay for non-compliance with the asylum policy.
In a ruling this Thursday, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) ruled that Hungary “deliberately circumvented the application of common policy” of the EU – in this case the acceptance of applicants for international protection – which, according to the statement, “constitutes an unprecedented and exceptionally serious violation of Union law” .
The ruling adopted this Thursday assesses that Hungary deliberately avoids applying the general policies of the Union, “which constitute a serious threat to the unity of Union law” and, on the other hand, seriously affect the principle of solidarity and the fair distribution of responsibilities between Member States.”
