Pope Francis asked this Sunday to continue to pray for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ukraine, the Holy Land, Sudan, Myanmar and all places where war causes suffering.
In Sunday’s Angelus prayer in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican, Pope Francis spoke of the “sad news of clashes and massacres” he had received and called for world peace.
“I received sad news in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. “I call on national authorities and the international community to do everything possible to end the violence and protect civilian lives,” he said.
Leaning out of the window of the papal palace, Francis said that among the victims, “many were Christians and died as martyrs.”
“His sacrifice is the seed that sprouts and teaches us to bear witness to the gospel with courage and consistency,” he said.
He later also asked to continue to pray for peace in “martyred” Ukraine, the Holy Land, Sudan, Myanmar and “all the places where people are suffering from war.”
