Lisbon’s Faculty of Pharmacy says there was “no” plagiarism in the case of the health minister

The Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon clarified this Friday that the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, “complied with the proposed program” in the academic report she developed and there was no plagiarism.

A note sent to Lusa, signed by the president of the Faculty’s Academic Council, António Almeida, and the director of the institution, Beatriz Lima, states that “the report on the activities carried out was subject to analysis by the Scientific Committee. The Council assessed the various aspects of the report and concluded that the work presented was in line with the proposed program.”

“It is impossible to draw any other conclusions, especially regarding the alleged plagiarism, which did not occur,” the teachers emphasize.

The college’s clarification comes after Friday’s edition of the Público newspaper reported that the health minister had copied excerpts from an English university course for a report she was to present at the end of 2023.

The newspaper claims that “inconsistencies” have been identified at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Lisbon, but the university never mentions them in the note sent to Lusa.

“The Academic Council reiterates its position that the report was approved correctly,” the faculty summarized in a letter sent at the end of the day.

The institution also adds that Ana Paula Martins, associate professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon, between December 2020 and December 2021, “was on sabbatical granted by the faculty, during which she developed several academic activities, in accordance with the proposed work program.”

Today, after the minister was in parliament answering a question from the Left Bloc about the emergency medical aid program, journalists questioned him about it, but he refused to comment.
