Moitas beach in the municipality of Cascais is closed to swimming, the National Maritime Authority (ANM) said on Saturday.
According to the ANM, the ban was imposed “after water quality tests carried out by the Portuguese Environmental Protection Agency (APA) revealed microbiological levels above reference values, rendering the water unsuitable for bathing.”
After receiving information from the APA advising against swimming in Praia das Moitas, “the Regional Health Directorate has ordered the raising of a red flag and the posting of notices at the entrance to the beach prohibiting swimming.”
This ban will remain in effect until new water quality tests show that microbiological indicators are within control parameters.
