Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 is the first film of the year to break the billion-dollar mark at the worldwide box office (around €932 million).
The film, which will be released in Portuguese cinemas on the 11th and which reflects on the difficulties that young people have in dealing with the deepest (and sometimes complex) human emotions, premiered 19 days ago in North American cinemas (where it collected 437.6 million euros) and then gradually conquered other markets around the world, where it achieved amazing debut records and a turnover of around 508.7 million euros.
“Inside Out 2” dethroned the previous record holder for the highest grossing film in 2024 (Dune: Part 2, which has amassed €663 million since March, or just over half) and became one of 11 animated films to join the billion-dollar club (eight of which are Disney films), becoming the fastest animated launch to reach that mark. It was also the first film since “Barbie” last July (151 million in its opening weekend) to debut with a budget above $100 million, or €93.2 million). Last weekend, the film also surpassed the gross of its predecessor, “Inside Out,” from 2015, which was €801 million worldwide.
Note that the story, directed by Kelsey Mann, is a time jump from the first film, with protagonist Riley now a teenager, which will clearly test her ability to cope with new feelings and internal conflicts.
