Chega has scheduled a debate on the security forces for this Thursday and is proposing a single mission supplement for the PSP, GNR and prison guards, paid in 14 monthly installments and indexed to 19.6% of the salary of the national director of the PSP and the general commander of the GNR. The increase will only come into effect after the approval of the next state budget, although it will be retroactive to July of this month. Prime Minister Luis Montenegro has already accused André Ventura’s party of “instrumentalizing real problems” and “invading the scope of action, activity and constitutional and legal competence of the government.”
On social media, Ventura called “security forces from all over the country to parliament” to participate in this debate. The inorganic structures of the PSP and the GNR responded positively to the call, while the most representative security forces associations distanced themselves from Chega’s call.
After three months of negotiations, the government and these associations are splitting 100 euros. The executive proposes to increase the mission supplement by 300 euros from the current 100 to 400 euros, paid in stages until 2026, while maintaining the variable aspect of 20% of the base salary. The associations are asking for an increase of 400 euros (200 euros this year, 100 euros in 2025 and another 100 euros in 2026), but “the government will not invest a cent more in this proposal,” Montenegro has guaranteed.
