The FPF is organising a festival of sorts in Hamburg’s Portuguese Quarter. The solution was found: to create a place where Portugal fans can watch Friday’s game against France or meet before heading to the stadium.
In the cities where Seleção has played before, the FPF has managed to create its own “fan zone” in addition to the official zones set up by UEFA, including a stage. The Hamburg municipality has shown no willingness to provide a central location to replicate this initiative, so the FPF has turned to the Portuguese Quarter, located in the port area. There will be music, as in previous games, but without the same conditions.
The logistics of the Portuguese fans in this quarter-final match were not easy. This Thursday saw an increase in meetings between the authorities and the security forces. Even the usual “Fan Walk” – a procession of fans led by members of the Portuguese police delegation and with drums – was not guaranteed. In fact, it is unlikely to happen.
