Mozambique and Timor-Leste signed three cooperation agreements on Friday in the fields of politics, education and mineral resources during the working visit of the Timorese head of state to Mozambique.
The agreements were signed by the heads of diplomacy of the two countries, Mozambican Veronica Macamo and Timorese Bendito dos Santos Freitas, moments after a meeting between the presidents of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi and Timor-Leste José Ramos-Horta.
The agreements provide for cooperation between the two countries in various ways in the areas of political consultations, higher education, hydrocarbons and mines.
“The agreements signed here are the result of political discussions and consultations,” the President of Mozambique stressed immediately after the signing.
Filipe Nyusi received his Timor-Leste counterpart José Ramos-Horta to deepen relations of friendship and cooperation.
Also this Friday, the Timorese head of state will meet with the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, Esperanza Bias.
José Ramos-Horta is visiting Mozambique for the first time since taking office in 2022.
During his stay in Mozambique, Ramos-Horta will also lay a wreath at Praça dos Heroes, receive the key to the city, give a lecture at the Eduardo Mondlane University on “Timor-Leste, the Region and the World” and visit the Centre for Strategic Analysis of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP).
After Mozambique, the Timor-Leste head of state will visit Angola from Monday to Wednesday, also to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation within the CPLP.
