According to a statement by the President of the Republic, Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi reappointed Lucia Ribeiro as President of the Constitutional Council (CC) this Monday.
“The reappointment of Lucia Ribeiro to this position was made by the head of state after the expiration of the term established by law,” the same note says.
Lucia Ribeiro has headed the CC since 2009, having joined the body when it began its activities in 2003.
In addition to monitoring constitutionality, this institution also functions as an electoral court, exercising powers to confirm and announce election results.
On October 9, Mozambique will hold general elections that will include presidential, legislative, provincial gubernatorial and provincial assembly elections.
