The bodies were transferred to a support vessel for divers and then taken to the port of Nazaré, where they were received by local firefighters and Alcobaça volunteers, who took them to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Leiria, where they will undergo an autopsy.
On the day of the sinking, the trawler Virgem Dolorosa with 17 crew members was about one nautical mile from the shore when it suffered an accident, the causes of which are still unclear, and sank. The situation was witnessed by a nearby vessel, which alerted the authorities. Of the crew, six were killed and 11 were injured, one of them seriously, and is currently in hospital. A marine police psychologist is accompanying the family members on reconnaissance.
