The US Secret Service assured Sunday that former President Donald Trump has the extra protection required by protocol for campaign rallies, rejecting criticism following an assassination attempt on the Republican nominee on Saturday.
“There is a false claim that a member of the former president’s team requested additional security resources and we denied them. That is absolutely false,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.
Hours before the announcement, Republican Rep. Mike Walz of Florida accused U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of failing to take additional measures to protect Donald Trump as the presidential campaign continues.
