The US president returned to address the country after Donald Trump was assassinated. In the Oval Office, Joe Biden called for democracy and therefore American unity: “The political climate in this country is getting too hot. The future of America is in the hands of the people, not killers. I want to ask all Americans to commit to making America more special. Action must be taken at the ballot box.”
In his speech, Biden emphasized that he is not an enemy of Donald Trump, only disagreeing with some ideas. The two spoke on the phone after the attack. Joe Biden assured that Trump is in good health.
This Sunday afternoon, the US President spoke live from the White House in Washington for the first time since the attack that injured Donald Trump this Saturday evening at a rally in Pennsylvania. In his statement, he once again condemned the attack on his opponent: “There is no place for this kind of violence in America. Attempted murder goes against everything this nation stands for. Unity is what matters now. conclusions about this man’s motives [Thomas Matthew Crooks]let the authorities do their job. Donald Trump already had a high level of security and will have all the means and opportunities to ensure his safety.”
Joe Biden was briefed Sunday by the FBI and Secret Service on developments surrounding the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. The US President announced that an “independent investigation” had been launched to “assess exactly what happened.” He also said that security would be stepped up at the Republican National Convention next Monday.
The meeting with FBI and government security officials took place in the White House crisis room and was attended by Vice President Kamala Harris and several security and justice officials, according to the statement.
The former US president shot Thomas Matthew Crooks in the right ear after he allegedly fired several shots during Trump’s speech. Following the attack, the former president was immediately safely removed from the event and security measures were put in place around him, US intelligence agencies said.
The attack killed Cory Compatore, the fire chief who was sitting behind the former US president, and seriously injured two others.
Shortly after the attack, Donald Trump responded on the Pravda platform: “I was hit by a bullet that went through the top of my right ear. There was a huge hemorrhage, so I realized what was happening. It was incredible that such an act could happen in our country.”
The Secret Service said the incident was under investigation.
Recall that Biden responded to the attack in a statement: “I am relieved to know that he is alive and well. My prayers are with him and his family, and with everyone who was at the rally, as we await further information. We are grateful to the Secret Service for transporting him to safety. There is no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as a nation to condemn it.”
