A man stabbed a soldier during an operation at the Gare de l’Est in Paris, France, on Monday. Other soldiers at the scene quickly intervened and proceeded to arrest the man. The soldier suffered a shoulder injury and was taken to hospital.
After hitting the soldier, the man shouted, “God is great.” He justified his actions by saying that “soldiers kill people in their own country,” he said. BFMTV.
The suspect is already known to the police and has a criminal record. In 2018, he was charged with murder, but the court decided not to try him because he suffered from mental disorders.
A psychiatric examination concluded that the suspect suffered from “probable schizophrenic illness that had developed over several years without any medical treatment.”
On Tuesday morning, the Paris prosecutor’s office decided to release the suspect from police custody and place him in a psychiatric ward. According to the French press, the criminal was born in 1984 in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He was granted French citizenship by decree on September 27, 2006, after changing his name to French.
