Farmers from the Metuge district in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province reported Wednesday to Lusa the movement of suspected armed terrorist groups in agricultural production areas, causing fear in local communities.
Community sources said the movement began around 4pm (3pm in Lisbon) on Sunday in the agricultural production area of Nampipi, about 100 kilometres from Metugue’s headquarters, when a group of farmers accompanied by hunting dogs chased animals away from the macambes (agricultural fields).
“We were driving away animals, I’m talking about monkeys, bloodthirsty animals, including pigs, so that they don’t come near our farms because they spoil the crops, then we saw a group of men, some with guns. It was strange because we are talking about a forest, far from the village,” said a source of the group from Nampipi.
