Outgoing French National Assembly President Yaël Braun-Pivet of the presidential coalition Juntos (Ensemble in French) was re-elected to the post on Thursday, beating candidates from the left and the far right.
At the first session of the National Assembly on Thursday, where 577 newly elected French deputies chose the president after the third round of voting, 53-year-old Yaël Braun-Pivet was re-elected by 220 votes against 207 voters. His communist rival André Chassin, the only candidate of the New Popular Front, a coalition of left-wing and far-left formations.
National Union (RN, far-right) candidate Sebastien Chenu came in third with 141 votes.
