Former US President Donald Trump donated thousands of euros to the campaigns of Kamala Harris, his rival in the race for the White House, when she ran for California Attorney General.
According to the newspaper TelegraphIn a report citing financial statements published on social media, the Republican donated five thousand dollars (about 4.5 thousand euros) to Harris’ campaign in 2011 and one thousand dollars (about 920 euros) to the campaign of Ivanka Trump, the tycoon’s daughter, and also donated two thousand dollars (about 1,840 euros) in 2014 to the Democrat’s campaign.
Then Loretta Sanchez, an opponent of Kamala Harris, put forward the hypothesis that Donald Trump tried to exert some influence on the Trump University investigation.
The now-defunct Trump University promised to teach students the “secrets of success” in the real estate industry. It eventually faced a class-action lawsuit for alleged false advertising and high-pressure methods to attract potential students.
Even though Harris was California’s attorney general, her office took action against Trump University. A spokesman for Joe Biden’s campaign said Kamala Harris did not solicit donations from Donald Trump or his family and that they did not influence how her office handled the allegations against the institution.
Trump also gave $25,000 (about €22,900) to Pamela Bondi, the former Florida attorney general, when she was also considering suing Trump University.
In 2016, Trump University agreed to pay $25 million (about €22.9 million) to settle the lawsuits.
In addition to donating money to Kamala Harris’ campaigns, Donald Trump has even donated thousands of euros to the campaigns of other Democrats, such as Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, his two main election rivals in recent years.
