Swimming at Salgueiros beach in Vila Nova de Gaia in Porto is not recommended as tests have shown the water is unsuitable for this purpose, the National Maritime Authority has said.
In a post on its official website, the National Marine Authority said that water quality analysis carried out by the Portuguese Environmental Protection Agency (APA) found “microbiological values above reference values, making the water unsuitable for bathing.”
Having received information from the APA that swimming on this beach was temporarily prohibited, the captain of Porto do Douro gave instructions to place notices at the access points to the beach.
Bathing is not recommended until new water quality analysis results show that microbiological parameters are within control parameters.
