A woman waited three endless months to find out if she was infected with HIV after a doctor performed an intimate examination on her using a swab that had already been used on someone else’s genitals in Batley, England, in the United Kingdom, according to a report. Mirror.
The 40-year-old woman visited her doctor in December 2022 for a vaginal exam due to health concerns, but was horrified to discover a mistake made by doctors.
After three months of waiting, the woman received the results and discovered that she was not infected.
“It was a serious mistake and I still can’t understand how it happened. I accept that people make mistakes, but the way the clinic handled the situation was terrible. They were apathetic and didn’t understand what I was going through,” the woman said, quoted by Mirror.
The woman then took the matter to the health ombudsman, who investigated the incident and is now asking doctors to be more vigilant to ensure such mistakes are not repeated.
The clinic had to pay the woman £500 (€593).
