“Christians, get out and vote! Let’s settle this! Just this once, you won’t have to do it again, my dear Christians. Let’s make it so good that they won’t have to vote.” These were the enigmatic words Donald Trump spoke Saturday night in Minnesota, at a gathering of young conservatives who are making waves in the November 5 U.S. presidential campaign.
The Republican nominee did not specify what he meant, but Kamala Harris sees no other interpretation than a “promise to end democracy.” “When Vice President Harris says freedom is at stake in this election, she means it. Our democracy is under attack by the criminal Donald Trump,” the Democratic nominee’s campaign said in a statement, recalling the attempt to overturn the 2020 election and the subsequent attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, when Trump declared that “the election results must be overturned.”
In his Minnesota speech, Trump devoted the opening portion of his address to religion. “I am here with you through the power of prayer and the grace of God. I am healed, just took the last bandage off my ear,” the Republican candidate said. The FBI initially ruled out the possibility that Trump had been hit in the ear by shrapnel. He later clarified in a statement that it was indeed a bullet.
