UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on Monday for “full transparency” in Venezuela following the declared re-election of President Nicolás Maduro in Sunday’s elections, which were meanwhile disputed by the opposition.
“We have taken note of the statement by the electoral authorities, as well as the concerns expressed by political actors and members of the international community. The Secretary-General calls for full transparency and encourages the timely publication of election results and their distribution to polling stations,” said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the Secretary-General.
Guterres also called for “any electoral disputes to be resolved peacefully,” citing the fact that the Venezuelan opposition is disputing the results announced by the National Electoral Council of Venezuela (CNE).
