Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said Monday that a “fascist” coup attempt is underway, amid doubts about his re-election process, which has been rejected by the opposition and parts of the international community.
Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) has officially declared Nicolás Maduro president after announcing Sunday evening that the Chavista leader, in power since 2013, had won the election, a claim rejected by the opposition.
Before Maduro was indicted, Venezuela’s attorney general, Tarek William Saab, accused opposition leaders Lester Toledo, Leopoldo Lopez and Maria Corina Machado of being primarily responsible for attempting to rig Sunday’s presidential election.
