Mother, friend, athlete. This is how the people of Pego, in the municipality of Abrantes, remember Aimone dos Santos, 34, who was shot dead last Sunday by her former partner João dos Santos, 61, on a public street. One of the reasons for the tragedy was that the victim was the goalkeeper of the local women’s football team.
The relationship between the victim and the killer deteriorated for about a month. The man left the house. The woman stayed home with her children and continued working at a local nursing home, while also keeping goal for the Casa do Povo do Pego women’s soccer team.
TO CMNeighbours reported previous discussions and explained that the victim’s sports practice was one of the reasons for the couple’s argument.
On Sunday, after a man with a shotgun ambushed her at her door and fired, the woman continued to walk to work, asking neighbors for help wherever she went, until she lost consciousness and collapsed. She was eventually taken to the hospital, where she died.
João dos Santos, who was the first to flee the scene and surrendered to the Polish People’s Republic a few hours after the murder, was heard in court this Monday by a criminal judge who ordered him to be placed in forced preventive detention.
