This Friday morning, authorities resumed the search for a man who disappeared late Thursday night while rowing on the Arade River in Portimão, with the help of divers and a drone.
The search operations are being carried out at sea by members of the Ferragudo rescue station crew and members of the Portimão fire brigade with a team of divers, and on land by members of the Portimão maritime police, as well as firefighters, with the support of a “drone”, the National Maritime Authority said in a statement.
The 29-year-old man, a Mozambican national, allegedly encountered difficulties while stand-up paddling on the Arade River, in a dredging area south of Doka Pesca.
The marine police psychological office has been activated and provides support to the person accompanying the victim.
“According to what has been established, the man disappeared into the river after getting into trouble while returning from a paddle, and his friend, who was wearing a life jacket, who was accompanying him, managed to return to shore by his own means and was warned,” the note says.
A friend alerted the authorities, who launched a search using the resources of the Institute for Assistance to Shipwreck Victims (ISN), a jet ski and a Zebra boat, which included two marine police operatives, two cars and four agents, as well as a boat from the Portimao fire department with six operators, two of whom were divers.
